Chapter 4: Bloodware Upgrade
Vance upgrades stolen Triumvirate tech in the safehouse, he and Nightshade raid for more, and Loreena Bloodwood gets the order to stop them.
Listen. I'm gonna tell you about what happened after the R&D heist - when Vance took the stolen prototypes home, made them better than anything the Triumvirate builds, and kicked off a chase that put Loreena Bloodwood on their trail.
This is Chapter 4. Bloodware Upgrade. Chapter 3 got them the loot. This one turns the loot into teeth - and brings in somebody dangerous enough to matter.

Vance came back to the safehouse soaked. Rain on the coat. Heavy bag on his shoulder. Inside, the place was locked down hard - blue coolant tubes glowing along the walls, racks of weapons already modded with Bloodware tech lighting up the dark. This was his shop away from the shop. Ad-Vance Bloodware's real workbench.

He dumped the bag on the metal table and started unpacking. Stolen Triumvirate prototypes. Armor specs. Hardware the old blood had locked away and never improved. Vance laid it out like inventory he already owned.

Then he got to work. He fused the experimental parts straight into his custom Vein-Links and Sanguine Cores. Neck implant lit up. Red circuit lines across his chest burned hotter as the new gear took the feed.

No committee. No permission. Just a merchant who invents alone, upgrading corporate hardware until it stopped being theirs.

When he was done, the modified rifle hummed. Over-clocked. Sparks jumping off the circuitry. Output way past standard Triumvirate kit. Corporate hardware looked slow next to it.

Mr. Nightshade leaned over the bench, red tech-visor catching the glow. He checked the work. Then he smirked - real approval, not the polite kind.
Mr. Nightshade: "You took their prototypes and made them dangerous in one night. That's why I picked you."
Vance: "They were sitting on this junk like it was museum stock. I put it to work."
Mr. Nightshade: "Good. Because owning better guns is only half the problem. We still need more tech - and we still need to find where the Triumvirate actually sits."

So they started hitting Triumvirate buildings. Coordinated raids. Rain, broken glass, neon muzzle flash. Vance with the upgraded Bloodware. Nightshade calling the angles. They weren't making speeches. They were stripping rooms the old blood used as storage closets.

Vaults cracked open. Glowing modules spilled out. More hardware for the bench. More upgrades. Every raid made their kit sharper.

But the big target stayed missing.
Nightshade stood in front of a holographic map that glitched and died. They could hit buildings all month. They still didn't know where the Triumvirate's real headquarters was. No clean lead. No master address. Just another dead feed and another night of guessing.
Mr. Nightshade: "We're getting stronger. We're not getting closer. Without their location, we're just annoying them."
Vance: "Then we keep taking their toys until somebody slips and tells us where they sleep."
While they hunted blind, somebody else on the Triumvirate side was already in trouble of her own.

Loreena Bloodwood. High-ranking Triumvirate fighter. Silver-white hair. Red eyes. Armor over a crimson gown. Where Mr. Nightshade had climbed through ledgers and corporate knives, Bloodwood ran security and offense. She was the fist, not the spreadsheet.

And the Triumvirate did not trust her.
They had caught her breaking their rules too many times. Disrespect. Freelancing. Looking out for herself first. Warning icons followed her through every monitoring room. She knew her future there was bad. Promotion was a joke. Punishment was coming. Problem was, she had nowhere else to go - so she stayed, watched her own back, and waited for an opening that served her.

Then the emergency hit her terminal.
CRITICAL BREACH AT R&D FACILITY SECTOR 9
An important Triumvirate Weapons R&D site was being trespassed. Her job was clear: mobilize, find the targets, neutralize them.

The screens filled with surveillance stills. Grainy. Clear enough. Vance and Mr. Nightshade inside a restricted research facility. The Triumvirate finally had faces on the raids.

Bloodwood didn't hesitate. She ordered her forces out - armored security and offense units forming up behind her. This was her assignment. It was also, maybe, her chance. If she handled the breach her way, she might buy herself leverage. If she failed, the council already had one eye on her neck.

Outside Sector 9, Vance and Nightshade moved through the wet industrial grounds. Enhanced cyber-tech glowed under their coats. Another facility. Another grab. They still thought they were ahead of the response.

Inside, Vance jacked into a main terminal. Implants pulsed with the code. Sub-routines dropped. Doors that should have stayed locked started opening for them.

Heavy pneumatic doors slid wide. Cold blue and purple laser grids lit a pristine high-security lab. Vance and Nightshade stepped through together, weapons up, heading for the inner stash.

Bloodwood was already in the building.
Emergency strobes flashed across her silver armor. She drew her weapon with a smirk that had nothing to do with loyalty. Neutralize the targets - sure. But if these two were useful, if this fight could get her out from under the Triumvirate's boot, she was going to take that option the second it appeared.

She came for them ready to win first and decide later.

On one side of the corridor: Vance and Nightshade, over-clocked Bloodware hot in their hands. On the other: Loreena Bloodwood and her elite squad closing the gap.

The hallway exploded. Neon blades. Cyan discharges. Smoke and rain and muzzle light. Triumvirate offense slammed into upgraded street tech - and neither side gave ground easy.

Close on Bloodwood's face: red eyes, fangs, alarms screaming behind her. In the middle of the fight, the thought landed hard - these rogues might be her way out. Not a report. Not a promotion. An exit.
That's Chapter 4. Vance upgraded the stolen gear until it outclassed corporate kit. He and Nightshade hit Triumvirate buildings for more tech and still couldn't find headquarters. Loreena Bloodwood got the emergency call, identified them, and led her forces into Sector 9. The chapter ends with the clash starting - and Bloodwood already calculating what these two are worth to her.
Next comes the fight that decides whether she stays Triumvirate muscle... or something else.
