Chapter 7: The Triumvirate Notices
The Triumvirate wakes up mean. Lady Morana hunts Bloodwood. The Crimson Enforcer hunts Nightshade. Vance survives both - barely - and the chapter ends with a door that should never have opened.
Listen. I'm gonna tell you about the night the Triumvirate stopped pretending Vance was a rumor and started treating him like a fire in their house. Not a polite response. The kind where ancient blood stops arguing about tradition and starts sending monsters with names.
This is Chapter 7. The Triumvirate Notices. Chapter 6 locked the maps. This one unlocks the consequences.

Same building. Nightshade's safehouse. Rain streaking Neo-London behind the glass while Vance stands at the window with red circuitry hot under the coat, gun low, blue hologram burning over the Bank: TARGET LOCKED. ASSET VULNERABLE. He's not admiring the skyline. He's measuring the hit - how they walk into the Triumvirate's bank and take the floor that thinks it's immortal.

Across the room - not across the city - Mr. Nightshade sits in red light and stolen access. Screens scream SYSTEM_FAILURE. CORRUPTION_CRITICAL. He's jacked into Triumvirate networks, prying open the Bank's HQ feeds, looking for the hijack path that turns their fortress into Vance's entrance. That thin corporate smirk is still there - but the numbers are no longer polite.
Vance: "How deep are you?"
Mr. Nightshade: "Deep enough to taste their ledgers. Not deep enough to own the doors."
Vance: "Then keep digging. The Bank doesn't get to stay theirs."
Mr. Nightshade: "I'm hijacking their house, Lord. Try not to shoot the furniture before I finish."

Picture the Triumvirate chamber: vaulted stone, industrial pipes, a circular table glowing the color of fresh violence. Three ancient seats. Threat profiles floating. CRITICAL UPRISING stamped across the map like a confession they hate making.
Standard security failed. Blood-Debt Enforcers failed. The old playbook failed. So they reach for the drawer they swore they'd never open.

War room. Weapon racks. Guards in black. A wall of metrics titled like a hymn to control. And in the middle of that red glare: two answers.
Lady Morana. Elegant. Lethal. Tasked with ending the traitor Bloodwood - and smiling about it, because those two have hated each other for years.
The Crimson Enforcer. A walking execution order. Tasked with hunting Nightshade.
Triumvirate Lord: "No more clean-up crews. No more half-measures."
Lady Morana: "Bloodwood dies quiet or loud. After everything between us? I prefer loud."
Crimson Enforcer: "Nightshade. Confirmed."

Morana steps into frame like a rumor that learned how to kill. Black armor veined with red light. Candlelit gothic corridor. Holograms warning around her. Those claws? Needle-sharp. Crimson. Built for people who thought they were hard to find.

And then him. The Enforcer. Skull face. Chest reactor. Double barrel the size of a bad decision. Hydraulic fist sparking. Not a soldier. A policy with armor. Near-invincible. The kind of problem you don't outfight - you outrun, if you're lucky, if the city loves you for five more seconds.

Outside, Neo-London keeps glittering like nothing's wrong. Bridges. Searchlights. Shard-Corp billboards. Empires always look beautiful right before they get ugly.

Morana on a balcony with rain in her hair and a glass of vintage blood. Cyan chessboard glowing. Pieces marked. A little V. A little B. She's not just hunting. She's enjoying the geometry of the board.
Lady Morana: "Bloodwood first. The merchant can wait. Or... maybe he shouldn't wait. Maybe he's useful."

That smirk? That's not loyalty. That's ambition wearing Triumvirate colors until the colors stop fitting.

Elsewhere, Miss Bloodwood sits in an armory polishing a red-edged blade like prayer. Silver armor. White hair. Entanglement still humming under the skin. She looks ready. She is not ready for Morana - her oldest rival, the one fight she's never won and refuses to admit she fears.
Meanwhile Vance is busy doing what Vance does when the city sends bodies.

Rooftop. Rain. Magenta energy curling around a clawed hand. Red eyes locked. He looks like the problem he promised to be.

Alley gauntlet. The Triumvirate sends their rented muscle: Blood-Debt Enforcers. Mercenaries who sold their names to the old blood - heavy black plate, blue energy blades, visors that don't ask questions. You don't hire them for subtlety. You hire them when somebody owes the empire a body and the ledger won't wait. Vance answers with twin crimson katanas and zero patience. One Enforcer lifted on a blade. Another already kissing wet asphalt.
Blood-Debt Captain: "Contain him!"
Vance: "Contain this."

Split feed: Nightshade at the console marking vectors, Vance mid-air carving a path through teal visors. The partnership still works. The city still bleeds on schedule.

HUD in Vance's face: attack vectors, priority high, Nightshade on the inset giving a thumbs-up like a man who still thinks numbers can save a night.
Mr. Nightshade: "Marked vectors. Move now."
Vance: "Moving. Try not to sound proud of me."

He sprints. Beam misses. Sparks kiss the puddle. That grin on his face says he's winning the easy part of the war.

Then silence. One Enforcer face-down in rainwater. Spent casings. Vance standing over the wreckage like the alley owes him rent.
That's when the corridor gets quiet in the wrong way.

Close on Vance. Sweat. Neon. And in both eyes - her. Red hair. Red stare. Lady Morana, already inside his reflection before he's fully turned.

Narrow industrial hall. Rain on metal. Vance looking back over his shoulder. Morana waiting down the corridor with energy claws live and that amused little tilt of the head that says she's already decided something important.
Vance: "If you're another clean-up squad, you're late."
Lady Morana: "If I were a clean-up squad, you'd already be cleaned."

She owns the alley. Triumvirate signs. Gargoyles. Rain. Claws humming. She sizes him up the way a thief sizes up a vault - not to open it tonight, maybe, but to remember the combination.

Extreme close-up: sweat, wide pupils, a red silhouette living in both eyes. Not a Blood-Debt Enforcer. Not clean-up. Something older. Something that could end him without raising its voice. For half a second, Vance looks like prey - and he hates how honest that looks on him.

She puts a clawed hand on his shoulder. Close. Cold. Intimate like a knife under the coat.
Lady Morana: "You're not my target. Bloodwood is. Funny thing, though - you smell like the same hunger I keep in my chest."
Vance: "I don't share thrones."
Lady Morana: "Neither do I. That's why I'm letting you live. Keep breaking their toys. Soften the empire. When I take it, I'll decide if you're furniture... or fuel."
Vance: "Generous."
Lady Morana: "Amused. There's a difference."

She turns. Shadows swallow her. Vance stays in the rain with a smirk that can't quite hide the math he just did: she could've ended him, and she chose not to. Not mercy. Strategy. Ambition recognizing ambition.

He pulls the collar up. Wrist HUD blooming a heavy assault schematic. Neon rain. He thinks the night still belongs to him.
Then the gantry above him remembers gravity.

Impact. Pavement exploding. Red sparks. The Crimson Enforcer lands like a verdict. Skull optics. Reactor chest. Bulk that makes Vance look suddenly, horribly human.
Vance: "You're not on my list."
Crimson Enforcer: "Nightshade."
Vance: "...Wrong address."

First-person panic. Twin pistols dumping rounds into crimson plate. Sparks. Dents. Nothing that matters. The juggernaut walks through gunfire like weather.

Vance spins, coat flaring, water exploding underfoot. Speed. Bloodware. Everything that beat the Blood-Debt Enforcers. Against this? It's theater.

Then the fist. Chest impact. Blood and sparks. Vance launched backward through industrial piping like the city itself rejected him. Not a duel. A correction.

Hydraulic punch craters the floor. Vance barely clears it. Vaults a railing. Dives into a maintenance hatch like a rat who still believes in destiny.
And then - salvation with someone else's name on it.
The Enforcer's HUD lights up:
TARGET ACQUIRED.
NEW ORDERS: TERMINATE.
TARGET NAME: NIGHTSHADE
Crimson Enforcer: "Priority update. Nightshade located."
He breaks off. Just like that. Leaves Vance battered, half-conscious, bleeding into a vent shaft - alive only because he wasn't the main course.

Back in the crimson boardroom, the ancient lords watch their monsters move. Map glowing. Capes and headdresses and that special fear reserved for people who finally understand the uprising is real.
Meanwhile Morana is already working her favorite assignment.

Industrial walkway. Rain. Bloodwood on her knees, silver hair soaked, face streaked red, gripping a sparking pipe hard enough to crack it - not begging, never begging. At the far end of the corridor: Morana. Energy claws. Slow advance. Old rivals. Same hate. Different weight class. Morana has always been the stronger one, and tonight the corridor proves it without mercy.
Bloodwood: "Come closer. Finish it with your hands if you've got the spine."
Lady Morana: "Still performing. Even on your knees. That's why I always hated you - and why this is delicious."
Bloodwood: "Hate me standing. Don't you dare pity me."
Lady Morana: "Pity? Loreena. This is overdue."
Bloodwood tries to escape anyway - pride over math. Morana doesn't let the word try mean much.

Cut to Nightshade's HQ. Server fog. Sweat on the collar. Red holograms screaming SYSTEM CORRUPTION CRITICAL. UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS. A wireframe Enforcer blooming over his shoulder like a ghost with a schedule.
Mr. Nightshade: "No. No-no-no. Divert. Blind the feed. Anything-"
Too late.

The Enforcer is inside. Server racks shredded. Sparks flying. Monitors yelling UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS: NIGHTSHADE. Claws through hardware. This isn't a breach. It's a demolition with a target attached.

Down the aisle of green server lights: the juggernaut stalking forward, rifle ready. At the far doorway - a suited silhouette. Small. Still. Watching the thing built specifically to end him.

Close on Nightshade. Visor pushed up. Star pin gleaming. Eyes dead serious. No smirk left. Just the face of a man who wanted the room next to the throne... and just heard footsteps in his own hallway.
Mr. Nightshade (whisper): "Vance..."
That's Chapter 7. The Triumvirate noticed. They sent Lady Morana for Bloodwood and the Crimson Enforcer for Nightshade. Vance survived Morana because she saw herself in him. He survived the Enforcer because Nightshade became the louder target. Bloodwood is losing to her oldest rival - pride intact, body failing. Nightshade is staring at his. And the alliance that mapped the Bank in Chapter 6? It's bleeding in three different rooms at once.
Cliffhanger locked. Somebody's about to learn what ancient agents do when the door finally opens.
