Chapter 8: Fracture
The alliance fractures under Triumvirate pressure - Nightshade in a compromised safehouse, Bloodwood under Morana's blade, and Vance with one window to turn the night around.
Listen. I'm gonna tell you about the night the alliance almost shattered in two rooms at once. Same storm. Different knives. Nightshade with footsteps in his hallway. Bloodwood under a rival's blade. Vance with one window left to turn pressure into power.
This is Chapter 8. Fracture. Chapter 7 left them bleeding in three places. This one is where the cracks either kill the plan - or cut the Triumvirate instead.

The sub-level safehouse went pitch black. Smart-bulbs exploded under heavy-caliber fire. Synthetic glass rained across metal grating. Sparks chewed the ceiling. Nightshade was already gone from the center of the room - back hard against a damp concrete pillar. Breath shallow. Controlled. Dust hanging thick. That aggressive crimson HUD sweep painting the gloom like it owned the air.

And through the shattered doorway - bulk, hydraulics, one furious red optic cutting the dark like a verdict.
The Crimson Enforcer was inside.

The juggernaut stepped fully in. Servos hissing. Frame filling everything that used to feel like safety.
Crimson Enforcer: "You can purge the logs, Nightshade. Wipe the mainframes clean. You can't outrun a walking execution order."

Nightshade didn't flinch. A grim, melancholic smile touched the corner of his mouth. He stepped out from cover and let the red scanner wash over him like bad weather he'd already priced in.
Nightshade: "An execution order. Is that what the Triumvirate calls it now? Or is it just cleanup for the inconvenient ghosts who know how deep the foundations are buried?"

The Enforcer locked targeting dead on Nightshade's chest. Internal reactors humming. Heat rising. Professional murder with a barcode.
Crimson Enforcer: "You were always a parasite. Pulling strings. Stealing data that didn't belong to you."
Nightshade: "I built those ledgers."

His mind slipped. Sterile corridors. Executive glass. Untouchable leadership tiers glowing above him like a joke with perfect manners. He gave them his youth. Rewrote financial frameworks. Optimized extraction. Believed merit meant something.

Then the promotion went to a corporate heir with zero operational history. Glass ceiling. Hard. Unyielding. Tool until the ink dried. Discarded after.

The present slammed back in.
Crimson Enforcer: "You never understood the architecture of power. You're just a bureaucrat playing soldier."
Nightshade: "Maybe so."

Eyes flashing reckless fury. He stepped into the open. Arms spread. Core exposed. Inviting the whole devastating arsenal like a man who'd run out of polite options.
Nightshade: "So do it. Hit me with everything you've got. Full output. Main-battery lasers. Let me die with some shred of dignity instead of bleeding out in this corporate gutter."

The Enforcer paused. Logic chewing the surrender. A warped flicker of professional respect. If this was how the old hound wanted to go - fine. Maximum yield.
Crimson Enforcer: "As you wish, old friend."
Thermal vents snapped wide. Core energy surged white-hot through the frame. Chest-mounted plasma-laser array screaming as the air warped around the barrels.
Fire.

Nightshade didn't move an inch. Milliseconds before impact, fingers hammered a sequence into his wrist terminal. Vance's experimental piece. The one that turns arrogance into physics.
The Blood Mirror.

A shimmering translucent lattice of crimson nano-crystalline energy flared across his skin. Full-body. Nodes burning. Not armor that absorbs. Armor that answers.

The thermal torrent hit the shield - and didn't eat him. It mirrored. Deafening shriek of displaced energy. The whole pillar of destruction whipped backward along its exact vector, amplified twofold by the bio-refractive matrix.

The Enforcer barely had time to register the anomaly before his own cataclysm slammed home.

Armor buckled. Reactor cores overloaded. Nightshade stood completely unharmed as the residual crimson faded into dark.

Wide shot: the juggernaut on his back. Chest cavity smoking. Red optics dying. A heap of scrap that used to be an execution order. Nightshade lowered his hands.
Miles away, the air was thick with blood and malice.

Ruined secondary transit depot. Cold industrial light. Rusted containers. Wet concrete. Lady Morana standing over Bloodwood like a verdict with better posture.

Bloodwood down on one knee. Gasping. Deep gash across the shoulder. Pride still standing even when the body wasn't. Morana's twin monomolecular blades dripping fresh crimson.

Lady Morana: "Look at you, Bloodwood. Reduced to a stray dog running errands for a charismatic upstart."

Flashbacks tore through Bloodwood like shrapnel. Early days. Elite personal guard for Lord Vane and Hildegaard - standing watch at the highest echelons. And beside her: younger Lady Morana, sharp-edged, ruthless, Etram's star apprentice.
Rivals from day one. Competing for absolute trust. Same hunger. Different rules.

Bloodwood had always been hard to control. She questioned orders. She broke the rules when she thought they were wrong. During the corporate purges, she refused to kill civilians. The Triumvirate saw that as weakness. So they demoted her. She lost her place as an elite personal guard and got pushed down to head of security. Morana took the spot Bloodwood lost. Morana never hesitated. She did whatever her master Etram told her to do - and the Triumvirate rewarded that.

Lady Morana: "You were always too soft. A pathetic failure who couldn't stomach the weight of true loyalty."
Bloodwood: "Come closer and say that with the blade. Don't decorate it."
Morana raised the monomolecular edge for the finishing strike.

Before the blade could fall, the shadows behind Morana ripped open.

Vance stepped out with fluid, lethal grace. Two heartbeats. That's all. High-velocity micro-injector already gone from his hand, red guidance beam kissing the air.

It hit her exposed neck. She gasped. Stumbled. Ripped it free. Fury bright enough to light the depot.
Lady Morana: "What was that? Poison? A paralyzant?"

She didn't wait for an answer. Feral snarl. Closing the distance. Fist driving deep into Bloodwood's side. Fresh blood on concrete. Bloodwood cried out - and still didn't beg.

At that exact instant, Morana choked.
Her own ribs flared with matching agony. Skin on her torso ruptured in sync. Same wound. Same moment. Same mathematics.

She stared at her hands in disbelief as crimson welled identically on both of them.
Lady Morana: "What... what is this?"

Vance stepped into the light with that calm, razor-sharp smile - the one he wears when the board is already his.
Vance: "Blood Entanglement. My proprietary cyber-tech. Whatever trauma hits one host hits the other. Symmetrical. Immediate. Kill her, Morana... and your heart stops on the same beat."

She froze. Looked from Vance to Bloodwood. Flexed her fingers. Every movement mirrored with agonizing precision. Checkmate. Harm Bloodwood and she commits suicide with better lighting.

Slowly the kill-posture dissolved. Replaced by a twisted dark amusement. Genuine admiration for the man who just engineered a leash she couldn't cut.
Lady Morana: "Incredible. To build a leash like this... your ambition is staggering, Vance. You're playing a different game."

She stepped backward into creeping shadow.
Lady Morana: "I can't fight you. I can't kill her. But make no mistake - this isn't over."
Final smirk. Laughter echoing. Lady Morana gone into the night.

Secure comms buzzed sharp inside Vance's tactical HUD. He tapped in just as Bloodwood struggled back to her feet, nursing bound wounds and unbroken pride.
Mr. Nightshade: "Vance? Bloodwood? Report. The Enforcer is down on my end, but the safehouse is compromised. Are you two intact?"

Vance glanced over. Bloodwood gave him a firm, strained nod. The Entanglement hummed faintly between them - volatile alliance held by a thread of shared survival.

Vance: "We're intact. Bloodwood's standing. Morana can't touch us - not without killing herself. We're safe from her for now."

She was still bleeding. Still standing on pride more than strength. Vance caught her before the rain and the wound took the rest - no speech, no soft comfort, just an arm that kept an ally on her feet. Bloodwood didn't thank him. She didn't need to. She pulled him in and hugged him tight - fierce, wordless, all the gratitude she wouldn't say.

He paced toward the main window - neon skyline, rain, the towering silhouette of the Triumvirate's central Bank. Financial pillars crumbling. Supply lines cut. Target burning red on the board: CENTRAL BANK VAULT.
Vance: "The timing is right. The Triumvirate is bleeding out. We hit back now - and we take the heart of the city."

Then the quieter victory. Crystal glass. High-grade blood. Ice catching red light. Holograms floating around him - Bank routes, locked doors, Triumvirate profiles stamped ACCESS DENIED. The old blood still thought their walls would hold. Vance drank anyway. The fracture was done. The assault was next.
That's Chapter 8. Nightshade didn't outrun the execution order - he reflected it. Vance didn't outfight Morana - he entangled her. Bloodwood stayed prideful on one knee and lived because the leash cut both ways. The alliance fractured under pressure... then locked again sharper than before.
The Bank is next. The Triumvirate just lost the night.
